Students are expected to write independently for a minimum of 20 minutes every other week. OMO's are due on Tuesday every other week.
Additional expectations Students should: Write for a minimum of 20 minutes every other week (on their own) OUTSIDE of school. During the "off week" students will edit and revise their OMO based upon the mini lesson taught.
Write only on one side of the paper
Students should skip lines (to add room for revision)
Date the page and label it with their NAME and the assigned OMO #______
Track their writing “start and ending times” in the left hand margin
The writing can be any genre. During the first month, I will provide heavy guidance.
Writing should be considered a “draft”, not a final copy.
Students will edit and revise their OMO based upon our weekly mini lessons covered. Final copies of the writing pieces will be compiled into a folder throughout the remainder of the year.
Students will select their top four pieces within the following genres: one narrative, one persuasive, one informational and one poem to publish by June.
To note: Writing is a process. Students often get a taste of an interesting writing prompt during the week or start a piece of poetry and never get to continue it or move forward and play with their ideas and tweak their writing. NOW’s THEIR CHANCE!
