Crayfish are marvelous classroom organisms. They are exciting and easy to care for. Through close observation, students are learning interesting details about animal structures while developing a sensitivity to the needs of living organisms. Crayfish breathe and eat in water. They dramatically clamp down on the students’ pencils and are able to teach students about habitats, adaptations, and how a food chain works. Today, the children partnered up to capture their observations, hold the critters gently to discover their gender and even predict their length in centimeters. During this science lesson, students' exercised their sense of wonder and inquiry! |
