Students in Room 264 became real naturalists as we ventured into the Parkdale Garden to practice writing and sketching like scientists! The purpose of this lesson was to teach students the importance of using a field journal correctly, and to work on student's note-taking abilities. We are striving to build good habits by asking questions and crafting comprehensive recordings while in the field. This is a process and it will require a lot of modeling and practice. Our first official field journal entry will be done when we observe the crayfish we have in our classroom! Students have been encouraged to use their senses when jotting down notes! The end result will be to take what they've learned about time, species, measurements, and location, and recording all that data in written form.
